SMART Program

The Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation, or SMART Scholarship-for-Service Program offers scholarships for students pursuing bachelor, master and PhD degrees in STEM. While in school, students will receive full tuition, monthly stipends, health insurance and book allowances, as well as summer internships from 8-12 weeks. Upon degree completion, scholars begin working in a civilian position with their sponsoring facility.

The Pathways Intern Program provides students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions with opportunities to work in a federal environment while earning an education. This is a paid internship program. Students who successfully complete the program may be eligible for conversion to a permanent job in the civil service.

The Pathways Recent Graduate Program provides developmental experiences in the federal government. It is intended to promote possible careers in the civil service to individuals who graduated from qualifying educational institutions within the previous two years with an associate, bachelor, master, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate.

The CyberCorps Scholarship-for-Service Program is a unique program designed to recruit and train the next generation of information technology professionals, industrial control system security professionals and security managers to meet the needs of the cybersecurity mission for federal, state, local and tribal governments. This program provides scholarships for up to three years of support for cybersecurity undergraduate and graduate (M.S. or Ph.D.) education. In return for their scholarships, recipients must agree to work for the U.S. Government in a position related to cybersecurity for a period equal to the length of the scholarship after graduation.

The Presidential Management Fellows offers a prestigious two-year fellowship in the federal government working on various assignments at different agencies. Individuals who have completed a qualifying advance degree (master’s or professional degree) within the past two years are eligible to apply.

The National Defense Science & Engineering Graduate, or NDSEG, Fellowship Program is a highly competitive, portable fellowship that is awarded to U.S. citizens and nationals who intend to pursue a doctoral degree in one of fifteen supported disciplines. NDSEG confers high honors upon its recipients and allows them to attend whichever U.S. institution they choose. NDSEG fellowships last for three years and pay for full tuition and all mandatory fees, a monthly stipend and up to $1,000 a year in medical insurance (this excludes dental and vision insurance).
